Terms of Service
Effective date: March 25, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Pause website at givepause.com and the Pause email-based scam-protection education service (collectively, the “Service”), operated by Pause (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By creating an account or purchasing a subscription, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Service description
Pause is a 12-week email-based education program designed to teach recipients how to recognize and avoid common scams. A buyer purchases a subscription and enrolls one recipient (typically a parent, grandparent, or other loved one) to receive weekly lessons delivered via email. Each lesson includes educational content and an interactive practice quiz.
2. Subscription and billing
Subscriptions are priced at $99 per year per recipient. Each subscription covers one recipient. To enroll additional recipients, you must purchase additional subscriptions.
Subscriptions automatically renew annually on the anniversary of your original purchase date unless you cancel before the renewal date. You will be charged the then-current subscription price at each renewal. We will send a reminder email before your renewal date.
All payments are processed by Stripe. You are responsible for keeping your payment information current. If a renewal payment fails, we may suspend lesson delivery until payment is resolved.
3. Refund policy
We offer a full refund within 30 days of your initial purchase, no questions asked. To request a refund, email support@givepause.com.
After 30 days, refunds are not available. Prorated refunds for partial subscription periods are not provided. You may cancel your subscription at any time to prevent future renewals, but no refund will be issued for the current billing period.
4. Accounts and security
You must provide a valid email address to create an account. We use magic-link authentication — there are no passwords. You are responsible for maintaining access to the email account associated with your Pause account and for all activity that occurs under your account.
You agree to notify us promptly at support@givepause.com if you believe your account has been accessed without your authorization.
5. Recipient consent
By enrolling a recipient, you represent and warrant that you have obtained the recipient's permission to share their name and email address with us and to enroll them in the Pause lesson program. You agree not to enroll anyone who has asked you not to or who you do not have a genuine personal relationship with.
Recipients may opt out of receiving lessons at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any lesson email or by contacting us at support@givepause.com. If a recipient opts out, lesson delivery will stop. No refund is issued for unused lessons.
6. Content and educational disclaimer
Pause lessons are educational in nature. They are designed to help people recognize and avoid common scams through practice and awareness-building. Our content is not legal, financial, cybersecurity, or other professional advice.
We do not guarantee that completing the program will prevent the recipient from falling victim to any particular scam. Scam tactics evolve constantly, and no educational program can provide complete protection.
If you or your recipient suspects fraud, contact local law enforcement or the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
7. Intellectual property
All lesson content, visual aids, quizzes, email templates, branding, and other materials provided through the Service are owned by Pause and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
Your subscription grants you and your enrolled recipient a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the lesson content for personal, non-commercial purposes only. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, publicly display, or create derivative works from our content without our prior written consent.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
- Enroll a recipient without their knowledge or consent, or after they have asked not to be enrolled.
- Attempt to access another user's account or data.
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure.
- Resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit the Service or its content.
- Use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the Service.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Pause and its officers, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
In no event shall our total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising out of or related to the Service exceed the amount you have paid to Pause in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure.
11. Termination
By you: You may cancel your subscription at any time through the Stripe customer portal or by emailing support@givepause.com. Cancellation stops future renewals. Your recipient retains access to previously completed lessons.
By us: We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if you violate these Terms, if we are required to do so by law, or if we discontinue the Service. If we terminate your account without cause, we will issue a prorated refund for the unused portion of your subscription.
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including intellectual property, limitation of liability, and dispute resolution) will survive.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law principles.
13. Dispute resolution
If a dispute arises out of or relates to these Terms or the Service, you and Pause agree to first attempt to resolve it in good faith through informal negotiation. Either party may initiate this process by sending written notice to the other party.
If the dispute cannot be resolved through negotiation within 30 days, either party may submit the dispute to binding arbitration administered by JAMS under its Streamlined Arbitration Rules. The arbitration will take place in San Francisco, California, or remotely at the election of either party. The arbitrator's decision will be final and binding. Judgment on the award may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction.
You agree that any dispute resolution proceedings will be conducted on an individual basis and not in a class, consolidated, or representative action. If for any reason a claim proceeds in court rather than through arbitration, you and Pause waive any right to a jury trial.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. The “Effective date” at the top indicates when the Terms were last revised. Continued use of the Service after the updated Terms take effect constitutes your acceptance of the changes. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the Service and may cancel your subscription.
15. General provisions
Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
Entire agreement. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Pause regarding your use of the Service and supersede all prior agreements and understandings.
Waiver. Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms will not be considered a waiver of that right or provision. Any waiver must be in writing and signed by Pause to be effective.
Assignment. You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign our rights and obligations without restriction.
